Mayweather KOs Hatton!
Floyd Mayweather woke up this morning still the best fighter on the planet. Ricky Hatton woke up knowing he gave the fight his all (and most likely a very sore jaw).
Mayweather defeated Hatton by TKO in round 10 of a wildly entertaining fight in front of a boisterous pro-Hatton crowd last night in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The fight was much better than most boxing experts anticipated. Hatton was able to force Mayweather to the ropes with his smothering style which allowed him to take an early lead on most scorecards. While Hatton was very aggressive, Mayweather patiently set up beautiful counter shots that wore down "the Hitman" as the fight progressed.
By round 8, it was clear that Hatton was out of gas. Mayweather began to press the action more and more each round connecting with lightening fast lead rights and beautifully timed left hooks. He even pulled out a stiff jab that's usually left on the shelf.
Round 10 was the end for Hatton. While aggressively trying to maul Mayweather to the corner, Hatton was put on the canvas by one of the quickest left hooks you'll ever see. Hatton was able to reach his feet, but was quickly dispatched again by Mayweather's viscous hooks to the head.
After the fight, Hatton showed why he is one of the most liked fighters in the sport, and his fans showed why they are the best fans anywhere. Even after his heartbreaking loss, Hatton smiled and joked with announcers and fans displaying a clever wit usually reserved for entertainers. Meanwhile, Hatton's fans continued to serenade their fallen hero despite witnessing his first ever defeat.
As for the champ, Floyd Mayweather was his usual coy self saying he planned to take the next year or two off. Yeah, right. Clearly, "Money" Mayweather has one thing on his mind for next year: another big money fight. Names of possible opponents include Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, or a rematch with Oscar de la Hoya
In any event, both fighters proved their worth to the sport. Ricky Hatton proved he is a very good fighter, and Floyd Mayweather proved that he is still the best in the world.
