Joe Calzaghe: Classless Loser of the Year

Thanks alot, HBO. Thanks to your ridiculously well crafted series, Calzaghe-Jones 24/7, I actually began to believe Roy Jones had a chance in the fight. In fact, I picked him to win by KO!

It was easy to see why. That stupid show kept pumping us clips of the Roy Jones of old. The one that couldn't be hit. The one that could hit you twice before you knew it. The REAL Roy Jones.

Well, at least my initial suspicions were correct. Jones would have been too much for Calzaghe--say 5 years ago--just not now. After getting knocked down with a glancing shot in the 1st, "Classless" Joe Calzaghe (his new nickname) dismantled Roy Jones be easy decision victory.

And he classlessly celebrated the whole time he was in there.

Classless? Yes. Classless. Sure, it's easy to see why Calzaghe was so pleased with himself as he was just too fast for old Roy Jones, but perhaps we should be asking Joe when he's going to fight someone who isn't past his prime. For a beating a guy he should have beaten, Calzaghe sure was all showboating and giggles.

So as Joe Calzaghe solidified himself as "Classless Loser of the Year", I started imagining all the guys he really should fight if he wants to be considered the best. Let's start with the 3 amigos, as I call them. These 3 fighters would all be able to give Classless Joe a real run for his classless money.

1. Antonio Tarver: Hey, Calzaghe, Tarver beat Jones when he was old, too. Maybe you should give him a shot. Oh, wait...is he not quite past his prime enough just yet? Let's make it 2011, then.

2. Glen Johnson: Yep, Johnson's tough, all action style make him a pretty good be to give Joe Loser all he could handle. He's old, too, but he's still got enough left in his tank to push Calzaghe to his limit.

3. Chad Dawson: Oh, look. Here's a fighter whose actually still in his prime! Oh, I know why Joe Calzaghe would NEVER fight Chad Dawson: Dawson would knock Joe Calazghe out.

Well, at least we know what really will probably happen. Joe will either retire or maybe step in the ring again soon with another fighter that used to be great. I don't know, Joe...maybe Sugar Ray Leonard is available...

I was just wondering if anyone has this setanta sports package for watching the boxing on TV?

I've heard from a mate that they get quite a lot of matches on there, and have taken over as the new sky sports channel.

Is it worth paying monthly for this TV channel?

Buying into the hype is one thing. But it was abundantly clear that this was the only way that they could create interest in the bout. Other than the first round Jones showed absolutely nothing whatsoever.
